BEFORE YOU BRING YOUR NEW PARROT HOME YOU WILL NEED:

~ To purchase a suitable sized cage and play stand, parrots of all sizes need lots of space so please research the type of parrot you're adopting. Even some small breeds of parrot such as the Kakariki are only suitable to aviary sized cages.

~ Suitable parrot seed mix, pellets, nectar, fruit, vegetables or any other dietary need the parrot you have chosen needs.

~ A suitable amount of parrot toys as parrots need a lot of stimulation like a child would (you're adopting a 4 year old who will not grow up).

~ To have checked the area you will allow your bird out to play in, to make sure there are no safety hazards such as poisons and power cords (parrots love cords).

~ Arranged to take your new adopted friend to a vet for a check up and tests.

Make the time!.

Make time daily to spend with your parrot out of its cage.

This is very important with hand reared inside parrots as they crave your attention. Do not just cover their cage if they're making noise, this is often a sign they want some one on one time with you.

Set up a play area for them with stand and toys in a room you spend a lot of time. This way they feel like part of the family.

PLEASE REMEMBER!

Keep your new parrot separated from the parrots you already have (if any) for 30 days OR until vet tests have cleared them of any diseases that could be passed onto your other parrots.
